Executive Summary

The Cariboo-Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition was formed to enable "Communities Working Together for a Sustainable Future".

This economic strategy is for the LhtakoDené (Red Bluff), Lhoosk’uzDené (Kluskus)and ‘Ulkatcho communities. They are linked by the historic Nuxalk-Carrier Grease Trail. For the purpose of this strategy, we refer to the group of community representatives involved in the preparation and approval of this strategy as the Carrier Chilcotin Tribal Council (CCTC). We refer to the three participating bands jointly as “the communities”or “the bands.”

The key components of this strategy include wildfire protection, forestry, agriculture, andrepair of the multi-faceted ecological damage wrought by the mountain pine beetle epidemic. We alsoaddress the resource extraction sector, which brings with it serious environmentalconcerns as well as potential economic opportunity. There are potential projects at the community level, as well as collaborative projects to be managed jointly by the CCTC member communities.
