Log Home & Timber Frame Building Manufactures Market Expansion Initiative

BC's Log Home and Timber Frame building industry is a marquee value-added product for BC providing employment throughout the province. Several studies indicate that BC enjoys an international competitive advantage in log home and timber frame construction and that there are considerable market expansion opportunities. As a result, CCBAC has partnered with the BC Log Home and Timber Building Industry Association, the Southern Interior Beetle Action Coalition and the Pine Beetle Epidemic Response Branch of the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training to implement a project that identifies and implements actions that will expand markets for the sector. Such market expansion would help drive an expansion of BC's Log Home and Timber Frame building sector, resulting in more value-added employment in Cariboo communities.

With this support the BC. log home and timber frame building industry was able to conduct extensive testing on log wall energy consumption values and a life cycle analysis (the carbon footprint and environmental impact in relation to other building technologies) to help meet new building code requirements. This testing was critical to the success of the industry. Further projects made possible by this funding included a new marketing strategy report and website development.
